Elliott discovered a great park on one of his runs so we took a detour on our way to the Evita Museum. Situated near the Palermo neighborhood, this park is a cross between Greenlake, an English rose garden, and a tropical resort. Argentine couples cuddled on benches as gaggles of geese roamed the grounds. Except for the occasional honking horn, it really was an oasis in the middle of the city.
After our long march to the Museo Evita, we made our usual afternoon pit stop for a coffee and snack. Considering every meal is shifted ahead by five hours, this second meal of the day often comes at 5 or 6pm. This is a shot of some tasty crepes we got in the cafe at the museum. One was filled with caramelized onions and brie while the other had eggplant, provolone, goat cheese, and arugula.
The Museo Evita is fairly small but a must-see for fans of the musical, the woman, or for anyone interested in the history of Buenos Aires. The exhibit includes rare movie footage, childhood artifacts, and an impressive collection of Eva Peron's wardrobe from the 30s and 40s.
Since March is the beginning of fall here, we've seen an abundance of great looking squash and eggplant. For dinner, Elliott created a homemade butternut squash soup and a panini with grilled eggplant, sundried tomatoes, basil, and fontina. Much needed after our five hour trek.
We couldn't resist putting together a dessert sampler from the bakery down the street. This whole plate cost a little under $3. Great for vacation but it's probably best this bakery stays in Argentina!
